Our Story

It all started with a large parcel of land and a man’s vision for what that land could become. My name is Kelly May, and I had a vision for a camp for children and teenagers to be able to come and hear about the Lord and be able to have fun at the same time.  I had a heart for young people and wanted to develop an outreach to be able to share the Gospel and build disciples for the Kingdom of God.

I shared my vision with a precious brother in Christ , Mr. Jack Hill who attended church with me, he was in his 80’s and drove from Chattanooga. He became an instant and faithful supporter of that vision, giving so much enthusiasm and encouragement. You see, Mr. Jack had a heart for young people too. Our Pastor even knick-named him “the world’s oldest teenager.” One week after sharing the vision about a camp with Jack, he approached me and presented a Hardees’ bag with $50 in rolled quarters and with that gave the first donation toward what is Camp Rain today. He had also said he was gonna give $50 a month until the day he died! What an awesome gift! You see,  Mr. Jack sold socks, fruit, and vegetables on the side of the road to make a living. He had very little but gave so big!!I KNEW that he couldn’t afford that, but that’s what God had spoken to him and he obeyed!! 

As I was sitting on a high part of the property, I was looking out and saw how the ridge flowed out of the mountain when I noticed at the end of the ridge, there was a small rise, I felt The Lord impress upon my heart that, that hill was to be named JACK HILL! As I went over to look, it’s full of rocks that are great for sitting. There will be an outdoor classroom there, where kids will hear the gospel, and maybe even make a decision for Christ!! I began clearing it out and picking up all the sticks and underbrush. It’s gonna be an awesome place!! Jack was much like the widow who gave it all!!!!! He inspired us to start Camp Rain with $50 of rolled quarters from an obedient saint of God, and inspired about $1,000,000 worth of resources and labor to make Camp Rain what it is today. Mr. Jack went home to be with the Lord in January 2021 but he will always be remembered as the kind giving man who was ALWAYS ON FIRE FOR JESUS! What a legacy!

We want to see lives changed by the gospel of Jesus Christ and our young ones to develop their own walk with their Lord and Savior. We want them to be strong and confident in their faith so they can be able to stand against all they face in the world today. Our hope is that these beautiful children and teenagers have an unforgettable stay here at camp and leave feeling loved by God and us, and having learned about the Lord and the Bible while having lots of fun.

Our Camp was built on faith and many prayers. We give God all the Glory for all that we have been able to accomplish here at Camp Rain. We are also very grateful for Mr. Jack and the many others who have given of themselves and their resources to make this vision a reality. Thank You and may God bless each and every one of you!
